Self Advocacy Matters

We know how important self-advocacy groups are for people with learning difficulties

For many, it is the first place where people see that their opinion matters and their voice is listened to. A self-advocacy group is a place to socialise and a place where members are treated as a person with opinions, desires, plans and rights.

People First offers support to other self-advocacy groups and organisations. This can be to develop and strengthen an existing group or set up a new group, and can include:

  • How to set up a Management Committee
  • How to be more user-led
  • How to write a Big Picture Plan
  • Fundraising
  • Making big decisions in an organisation
  • Policy and campaigns

See some of our work with other groups of self-advocates below.

People First (Self Advocacy) is registered in England and Wales under charity number 1057354 and company number 03134827 at 336 Brixton Road, London SW9 7AA.
